Today, we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Flores of Ashidojo Barefoot Massage Education & Studio LLC
Alyssa, tell us a bit about your business and career.
I’m a second-generation massage therapist with 18 years of experience, specializing in “barefoot massage,” where I use my feet to deliver deep, flowing, and effective bodywork. I offer the broadest selection of barefoot massage and bodywork styles nationwide, ranging from deeply relaxing sessions to highly focused clinical treatments. In addition to my private practice, I serve as the official Ashiatsu Instructor for Texas and the surrounding states, teaching both nationally and internationally. I now teach primarily out of two main locations in Texas, carrying forward some of the oldest traditions in barefoot massage and sharing this unique, transformative work with both clients and students.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them to?
I’d start by welcoming them to my studio for a long-overdue massage session. After that, we’d explore the Square, stopping for coffee at Eagle Cawffee before enjoying lunch at Dix Coney Island. Later, we might grab a drink at East Side and catch a movie on their outdoor screen. We’d probably end the day simply strolling around and chatting, settling on a bench in front of the Courthouse.
What's the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that technique is only part of the work—connection is everything. Clients remember how you made them feel long after they forget the exact strokes you used. Staying curious, compassionate, and grounded allows me to adapt to each person’s needs and create an experience that’s truly their own.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have a great appreciation for Katherine Collicutt, the owner of Studio LaSalle. She is always looking for ways to support her team, whether it's professionally or personally. I feel very fortunate to have crossed paths with her and established my practice within her vision.
